Our roots
The first member of the Hahn family is mentioned in the historical annals is Eckhard, Eggehardus Gallus in Latin original. In 1230 he is referred to as a councilor and a knight of the Duke Johann the I-st of Mecklenburg and was, most probably, a descendent of the Obodrite nobility – for centuries allies of Charlemagne in his wars against the Germanic Saxons and the Slavic Veleti.

Our branch of the family starts from Johann August von Hahn (1730 – 1791), Postmaster General during the reign of Catherine the Great of Russia. The current owners of the Weissenburg Manor/ Kloster Zscheiplitz descend both from the Lutheran and Orthodox lines of the family: the first incorporated into the Ösel's Nobility Corporation in 1849, and the second (Gan; рус. Ган) – members of the St. Petersburg nobility.
