History of the Hahn family, now online

With the help of the University of Düsseldorf we are glad to announce the digital publication of George Lisch‘s monumental History of the Hahn Family, published originally in March 1844, in Schwerin (Mecklenburg).

Very thorough and resourceful, the publication contains a lot of factual material and important references dating back to the 14th and 15th century. There is also a healthy portion of guesswork, especially concerning the earliest period of the family history, predating any written evidence. This included Lisch’s speculations regrading the HAHN family being of the Slavonic origin.

Still, the book represents a monumental achievement in what remains to be one of the more complicated and delicate literary genres — family chronicles.

Alexander Hahn, Weissenburg, March 2017
